Bought By the Blood

Romans 3:24-25 (NKJV)

24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

25 whom God set forth asa propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed,

Redemption means to deliver by paying a price.

This describes the work of Christ! Christ fulfilled this at the Cross of Calvary and it can be summed up or set forth by using three principal greek words

1.) Agorazo – meaning to – buy in the market – it is taken from the word agora – (market)

Man is viewed as a slave “sold under sin”  Romans 7:14

14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.

The New King James Version. (1982). (Ro 7:14–15). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

Man is under the sentence of death (Ezek 18:4,20, John 3:18-19, Romans 6:23)

23 For the wages of sin isdeath, but the gift of God iseternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The New King James Version. (1982). (Ro 6:23). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

However, man is able to be purchased and the price is the blood of Jesus (this is the cost of man’s freedom or salvation)

20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

The New King James Version. (1982). (1 Co 6:20). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

9 And they sang a new song, saying:

“You are worthy to take the scroll,

And to open its seals;

For You were slain,

And have redeemed us to God by Your blood

Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

The New King James Version. (1982). (Re 5:9). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

See Also (1 Corinthians 7:23, 2 Peter 2:21, Revelation 14:3-4)

2.) Exagorazo– to buy out of the market – in other words to purchase the item or remove it from further sale. (Galatians 3:13, 4:5, Ephesians 5:16, Colossians 4:5). The finality of the finished work of the cross is that you have been taken out of the marketplace and you are no longer for sale.

13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursedis everyone who hangs on a tree”),

The New King James Version. (1982). (Galatians 3:13). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born  dof a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

The New King James Version. (1982). (Galatians 4:4–5). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

3.) lutroo– to loose and or set free – (1 Peter 1:18 and Titus 2:14)

We were in the market place, we were to be delivered to the highest bidder in the market.  Once we were purchased we would be placed into slavery.

So who would be the highest bidder?

God became the highest bidder.  He sent his Son Jesus Christ (John 3:16) and through the blood that Jesus shed on the Cross of Calvary, He purchased us out of the market place, took us off the market! However, He didn’t put us into slavery! Instead we became the sons of God and made to be joint heirs with Christ, not a slave but a son!

You and I were purchased with the blood of Jesus, not to be slaves but to be sons!

The cost of your freedom was the blood of Jesus! What a High Price for a Free Salvation!

You and I were justified freely by His grace, through the redemptive work of Christ! Jesus Christ was the substitute, He was the procurement.  His blood procured the redemption of our lives!

In Hebrews 9:5 the word Mercy Seat is the same word that is translated propitiation (Romans 3:25). The lid of the ark (Exodus 28:15) which is where the mercy seat was located. The priests would sprinkle blood on the Day of atonement (Leviticus 16:14) upon the mercy seat. This represented that the sentence of the law had been executed. When the blood was applied to the mercy seat, it changed the judgement seat into the mercy seat. Read Hebrews 9:11-14. When the blood of Jesus was applied to your life you no longer stood before the judgement seat you stood or now stand before the mercy seat. Instead of judgment we receive mercy.

Mercy = not getting what you deserve. We deserved death because the wages of sin is death. Instead of receiving death, which we rightly deserved, we now receive life (John 10:10).

So the blood is what purchased you out of the result of sin,  which is death!

Instead you were purchased into life.

The bible clearly states the blood of Jesus Purchased us. You and I were bought by the blood of Jesus Christ

1 Corinthians 6:19-20(NKJV)

19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who isin you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1 Corinthians 7:23 (NKJV)

23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.

Colossians 1:14 (NKJV)

14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Acts 20:28(NKJV)

28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV)

7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

Hebrews 10:29 (NKJV)

29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

Revelation 5:9 (NKJV)

9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

Revelation 1:5 (NKJV)

5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,

Without a doubt we have been purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ!  Knowing that Jesus’ blood purchased you!  Knowing that you were loved enough; that Jesus Christ died on the cross and shed His blood for you. In so doing He regained everything that was lost by the 1st Adam in the garden of Eden. He regained everlasting life, regained the keys of the kingdom, and regained everything that was lost, through the finished work of the Cross!

Having this knowledge that the love of God is shown through the blood of Jesus.  Having and possessing all that knowledge, ought to cause believers to live life far differently than they do. Often people have more faith in what was lost by the 1st Adam then in what was regained by the 2nd Adam which is Christ Jesus.

We had more faith in our lostness then we do in our salvation!

We have more faith in the lies of the devil then in the finished work of the cross!

We have eternal insecurity, living in a constant state of worry about our status with God.

We must come to a point, that the old song writer wrote about. When she penned the words…

Blessed Assurance

Jesus is Mine

Oh what a foretaste of glory divine –

heir of salvation

purchased of God,

born of his Spirit,

washed in his blood.

There ought to be a blessed assurance that we are no longer in the marketplace!

We are no longer for sale, no longer slaves, no longer in bondage. Assured that the blood of Jesus has lifted us up and out of the slavery market and we are no longer under the curse of the law, but now walking and living freely in His grace!

Jesus has purchased us with a blood that is greater then the blood of bulls and of goats. Then made us to be the sons of God! That my friend is the picture, of the Love of God! That is the love that He has for you.

We would do well to remember that He didn’t purchase you so that you could be free. He purchased you and you are free!

He didn’t purchase so that you could be healed! You are healed!

You are saved!

You are delivered!

What I am saying is that the blood worked! The blood did it’s “job”!

Your “job” is to accept this finished work! You have to have a belief or an assurance in the blood of Jesus Christ.

You need to know assuredly that you are saved by the blood of Jesus!

Then remind yourself that there, is nothing more powerful, than the blood of Jesus.

The Blood is what redeemed you! It is what covers you! It is what protects you! It is what heals you!

You need to have an assurance that God is for you. Not only is He for you, but He is in you!

It is Christ In You the Hope of Glory

The blood now grafts you into the body of Christ.

So not only is Christ in You, but you are in Christ!

Because of that you then can stand upon this…

Romans 8:1 (NKJV)

1 There istherefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

There is “now” no condemnation! That is right now word, right now, you are not condemned, instead you are free!

That is the word that ought to give you an assurance. You need not be concerned about were you stand tonight, or whether God is against you, or the standing/status of your salvation!

There are three things that ought to confirm where you stand!

  1. The Work of Christ
  1. The Word of God
  1. The spirit of Almighty God that bears witness in you!

You were bought by the blood and you are secured by the word of God!
